Rabbi Idan's Pnina for this Shabbat, Parashat Pinchas, is: “The Harmony of Keva and Kavana: The Art of Truly Being Present.”
Sermon excerpt: “It’s important to place our Kavana, intention, with almost every Keva, daily routine we encounter. When we take things for granted, function on autopilot, or divide our attention, it may eventually hurt us. This is true for our relationships with our spouses, our parents, our children, our colleagues, friends, and our health. ” Rabbi Idan

Rabbi Idan's Pnina for this Shabbat, Parashat Chukat, is: “Touching Lives: The Impact of Simple Gestures."
Sermon excerpt: “Everyone wants to be relevant, and everyone is relevant. Not everyone feels that way. You can change that with simple gestures, like acknowledging someone who is serving you in a restaurant, picking up your trash cans, or bagging your groceries in the supermarket."
"A little smile and words of encouragement and gratitude create light and caring in the world.” - Rabbi Idan

Rabbi Idan's Pnina for this Shabbat, Parashat Korach, is: “Internalize the Socratic Method when Listening to Claims and Before Restating Them.”
Sermon excerpt: "Words and the acquisition of information, whether true or not, about other people and situations are extremely powerful.
Unfortunately, we see over and over again that the promotion of certain agendas and the pursuit of power and position may lead to modifying the truth.
We see this regularly in the anti-Israel campaign on college campuses around the world, on social media, and in movements such as BDS. The purveyors of these untruths have invented their own narrative, their own discourse, and it seems that as long as more people believe in it, it doesn’t matter if the narrative is false; they behave as if it’s true." - Rabbi Idan

06/28/2024 Shabbat Service: Perform our First Adult B’nai Mitzvah Ceremony
Friday Jun 28, 2024
Friday Jun 28, 2024
** Congregation Ahavat Olam’s musically uplifting weekly Shabbat service. **
Congregation Ahavat Olam performed our First Adult B’nai Mitzvah Ceremony! Mazal Tov to Sherry Comerchero, our first Adult Bat Mitzvah Graduate!
In Sherry's Own Words: 'My Torah portion is about faith - faith in God, faith in oneself and faith in one another, regardless of whether we succeed or fail in our undertakings… Our congregation, Ahavat Olam, started up three years ago from nothing except for faith in building a like-minded community, a congregation grounded in faith of one another, faith that we all had our own vision of what Judaism means to us, and faith in God. I encourage you to have faith in yourself as you are challenged in life…and teach your children to do the same. As a side note, if you are so inclined, please consider participating in our adult Bat Mitzvah class, as it has been life-changing for me, and I know you will experience this as well.'
Sherry will join Rabbi Idan in this evening’s Shabbat service. She will chant from the Torah, lead us in prayer, and share her thoughts about her Torah portion,
Sh’lach, with the community.

Rabbi Idan's sermon for this Annual Meeting Shabbat, Parashat Beha’alotcha, is: "Empowering Leadership: Embracing the Potential Within Us All”
"Congregation Ahavat Olam is a congregation of leaders. I find great satisfaction in being part of a community in which members participate actively: playing in the band, leading us in folk dancing, sharing their photography skills, and writing songs. Volunteers take initiative and encourage us to participate in the mitzvah of Tikkun Olam, making the world a better place. And, of course, our wonderful congregants go the extra mile to create a welcoming community. None of this would be possible without all of you and the support of our dedicated founding board members. Our congregation exemplifies what true leadership looks like."
