** Congregation Ahavat Olam’s musically uplifting weekly Shabbat service. **
Rabbi Idan's sermon for this Shabbat HaGadol, Parashat Metzora, is: “Clearing Away Literal and Metaphorical Chametz, and Renewal Through Leshon HaTov—Truthful Speech”
At tonight’s service, we will honor the most recent installation of memorial plaques with a special appearance by the Ahavat Olam ensemble.
Sermon Excerpt: “On Passover, we are reminded to cleanse all the chametz found in our lives: in our homes and our tongues. Just as we physically remove chametz to symbolize the removal of impurities, we must spiritually cleanse our speech, freeing ourselves from the bondage of disinformation, propaganda, and harmful communication patterns Passover also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of memory, family, and tradition in shaping our identity and values. It is a time to honor our past, celebrate our freedom, and continue praying for the freedom of our ethnic kin held hostage in Hamas captivity.” --Rabbi Idan

Rabbi Idan's sermon for this Shabbat HaChodesh, Parashat Sh’mini, is: “Food – the Fuel that Powers Our Body and Soul”
Sermon excerpt: Our sages teach us that our physical body is like a vessel, and our soul is the content within it. The food we consume is like the fuel that powers both our body and soul. We must be mindful of what we consume because it directly affects our spiritual well-being. Furthermore, we must be mindful of the impact that certain foods have on our emotions and behavior. For example, if we consume too much sugar or caffeine, we may become hyperactive or agitated, which can negatively affect our ability to connect with our inner selves and with others. On the other hand, if we consume foods that are naturally high in nutrients and have a positive effect on our body, we will feel better, both physically and spiritually. For example, eating fruits and vegetables can boost our energy levels, improve our mood, and help us feel more connected to nature. --Rabbi Idan

Rabbi Idan's sermon for this Shabbat Parah, Parashat Tzav, is: “Shalshelet Torah Trope: The Sacred Pause in Decision-Making”
Sermon excerpt: “I feel that there is a reason the Torah Trope Shalshelet is found in the book of Leviticus, a book describing in detail the sacrificial service. The symbol, and the chanting it signals, illustrate a biblical understanding of the push pull tension associated with passionate expression or action, and urge us to hold our thoughts as we contemplate the personal sacrifices we may need to commit to—our morals, ethics, and desires.” --Rabbi Idan

Purim Shabbat! From the Beatles to the Rolling Stones, Pink, and Mary Poppins, join us for a special musically uplifting “Purim Shabbat” service featuring a performance by the Ahavat Olam Ensemble.
Rabbi Idan’s sermon for this Shabbat is: “From Purim to Present: Lessons on Genocide, Antisemitism, and the Impact of Words"
Sermon excerpt: “Unfortunately, these days, we are witnessing a great deal of misinformation. This generation heavily relies on social media, which often serves as a hub for dangerously deceptive and effective propaganda and hate. The story of Purim urges us all, today, and especially students, to take it upon themselves to study history from credible sources and not simply accept others' narratives, particularly on social media. When people continually repeat misinformation, it can significantly impact their understanding of reality, as well as that of those on the receiving end of their messages.” - Rabbi Idan

We are excited to welcome Tutti and Ron for another musically uplifting Shabbat service.
Rabbi Idan's sermon for this Shabbat, Parashat Pekudei, is: “Crafting Holiness: A Journey of Creation and Community”
Sermon excerpt: “While the Book of Genesis narrates the birth of the world, when God created the Earth for people to dwell in, in Exodus we witness the birth of a nation. That book concludes with the community coming together to create a holy space where God would dwell. Pekudei teaches us that just as God followed His plan, the Torah, so do we, as we are created in God’s image, to take on the role of creators. We have the ability to fashion a sacred space where the greatest designer and creator dwells. When each of us invests our heart, soul, and being into a project, we not only welcome the community into ours, but also invite God Himself.” - Rabbi Idan

Rabbi Idan's sermon for this Shabbat, Parashat Vayakhel, is: “The Mishkan - A Manifestation of the Spirit of the Community”
Sermon excerpt: “In our own communities, every act of kindness, every effort to support one another, and every shared endeavor adds a thread to the fabric of our collective existence. Our synagogues, schools, and charitable organizations are modern-day Mishkans, sacred spaces that we build and maintain together.” - Rabbi Idan
